Mayor Steve Benjamin, Council Members and City Officials Tour Historic Babcock Building/BullStreet District

Last week, the City of Columbia in partnership with Clachan Properties hosted a hard hat tour of the Babcock Building. During the tour, the developer discussed the renovations and construction currently underway at the building.

Ryan Tobin, Project Manager for Rehab Builders, Inc. and the general contractor for the Babcock Building project, led the tour. The participants included Mayor Steve Benjamin, Councilman Howard Duvall, who serves as the Bull Street Commission Chairman, and City Council members Tameika Isaac Devine, Daniel Rickenmann, and Will Brennan. City Manager Teresa Wilson and members of the City's executive management team were also present.

Also attending the tour were Clachan Properties Founder and President Hugh Shytle, and Walter Parks, architect of the Babcock Building renovations.

The Babcock Building is one of Columbia’s most historic buildings. The Babcock Building opened in 1885 and was added to National Register of Historic Places in 1981. The Babcock Building is one of the largest structures in the BullStreet District.

Clachan Properties, a company that specializes in historic renovations, will turn the 254,000 sq. ft. structure into 208 different apartment units. The first units in the renovated building will be available for occupancy in early 2022.
